About

On Thursday, October 27th we received very troubling news that collegiate skiing was facing elimination in Alaska.  The University of Alaska Anchorage ski program was going to be eliminated after the 2017 ski season, and a waiver was submitted to the NCAA requesting permission for UAF to drop below the 10 sport minimum to 8 sports, with the intent of also cutting skiing in Fairbanks.

We knew, Regardless of whether the waiver was granted or not, no team including UAA’s ski team could be eliminated without the approval of the Board of Regents.

We had 2 weeks until the NCAA committee would make a decision on the waiver, and the same 2 weeks until the next Board of Regents Meeting, so began our campaign to SAVE ALASKA SKIING! This website was created, a facebook page was created, a petition was created, events were planned.

And on November, 10th after an outpouring of community support UA President Johnsen and the Board of Regents announced they would not cut the collegiate ski programs in Alaska!
